NNFL round up - September 18th, 2008

September 18th, 2008 WITH pitches still being badly affected by the heavy rain and floods which hit the area a week earlier, Saturday’s North Northumberland League programme was restricted to only three matches. Berwick Town travelled to take on another new side, Ashington Athletic in the first division. In the end they managed to come away with a point following a 1-1 draw, but they left it late, not scoring until the 82nd minute. Berwick had the better of the first half but neither side could score and the teams turned around 0-0 at the break. In the second half Berwick continued to create the better chances, but it was Ashington who took the lead with a Jamie Morgan goal. Town refused to fold and they battled on to the end, the equaliser coming eight minutes from time..

Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
